The Drexel University Endowment is an investment in the University that grows over time to help increase financial aid, improve facilities, and elevate research and other essential priorities. Commencement is a Drexel tradition and so is the regalia that each graduate wears. However, for some students the $90 cost of the cap and gown is out of reach. That’s where the Drexel community can help. Each gift of $90 to the Graduation Regalia Assistance Fund covers the cost for one Dragon and makes it possible for them to be a part of the ceremony wearing their cap and gown. The Student Emergency Fund provides one-time resources to address immediate student financial needs. During the pandemic, it has helped students to return home during campus closures, gain access to the resources to complete virtual classes, and help Drexel students who are experiencing an unexpected and emergent situation that could jeopardize their education. The Center for Black Culture (CBC) serves as a hub of information, activity and community for Black students, faculty, staff, and alumni to increase knowledge, recognition and respect of the people, histories and cultures of the African diaspora and its many contributions to the world. All programs and services offered through the CBC are open to members of the Drexel community who want to gain a greater understanding of the Black experience and support a welcoming and wholly inclusive campus environment. Many Drexel students face financial hardships while enrolled at the University which impact their ability to have consistent access to meals. Mario’s Market, the new student food pantry, provides nonperishable food to any Drexel student in need. The Drexel Liberty Scholars program strives to cultivate the thought leaders and social justice advocates of tomorrow by providing high-achieving high school graduates from across the nation with a renewable scholarship award that covers 100% of their Drexel tuition and fees. To position students for success, each Liberty Scholar has the added benefit of a dedicated faculty/staff mentor, a Living Learning Community, academic resources and event programming. The Counseling Center provides access to mental health services and counseling at no cost to full-time Drexel students. Reach Out and Read helps develop critical early reading skills in children. The families who participate read together more often, and their children enter kindergarten better prepared to succeed, with larger vocabularies, stronger language skills, and a six-month developmental edge over their peers. Every Drexel student can find co-op placements that match their passions and goals; however, many students pursue opportunities that are not appropriately salaried, at nonprofits, in other countries, or in high cost-of-living cities. The Co-op Opportunity Fund creates opportunities where industry funding doesn’t exist, and provides stipends for unpaid and underpaid cooperative learning. By investing in The Co-op Opportunity Fund, you unlock career-defining experiences for students of all backgrounds in every industry across the globe.
